Promoting Inclusive and Market Oriented Spices Value Chain Development Promotion Project in Tanahun District

Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) Japan and Team Organizing Local Institution (TOLI) has signed agreement on February 01, 2026 in said project. The project duration is two years. The project area is in Myagde Rural Municipality (RM) Tanahun district. The RM and TOLI on the behalf of IGES has been signed agreement to contribute about a million kind support and implement the project activities. This year the project has been implementing the activities in ward no. 3, 4 and 6 wards. The project organized spices related training to 8 farmer’s group having 250 farmers, out of which 169 is women and 81 men. Currently, the project has been availed 1600 kg turmeric and 1500 kg ginger seeds to them based on their demand. Similarly, 6 nurseries established to grow chilly seedling, which will be availed to all the farmer’s group based on their demand. All the spices crops will be grown applying organic matter. The project also planning to grow indigenous spices crops like mint, wild coriander, moringa, tree tomato, long black pepper, Marathi and so on. Next year, the project will install processing machine to process, packing and branding the turmeric. In this regards, the RM will organize excursion visit to the RM and project official to observe the processing activities in Chitwan district. Other component of the project is to improve community forest by planting trees, mitigating forest firing and reducing pollution.
